Always artistic in inclination, Sung Alfred’s father finally decided on sending him to Paris to study couture at the Chambre Syndicale de la Couture Parisienne where he learned the trade of design from the ground up, so to speak, cutting and sewing garments by hand.

Sung Alfred then spent a year at Parsons School of Design in New York and worked on Seventh Avenue. It was when Sung Alfred moved to Canada and opened his own boutique called Moon  that the Alfred Sung brand first started becoming very popular with the younger set. Rather than trying to impress fashion moguls at the runway, the Alfred Sung brand became associated with conservative designs that focused on flattering a woman’s particular body type. His designs were mainly stylish and chic creations for the business woman.

When he partnered with Joseph and Saul Mimran, forming the Monaco Group, the Alfred Sung brand became much more widely successful and he broadened his design work to include many other items such as sunglasses, luggage and wedding bridal gowns. The Alfred Sung brand was retailed up and down the east coast of America in stores bearing his name and in 1981 he was named one of the top new designers by Saks Fifth Ave. He was also hailed as Canada’s ‘King of Fashion,’ in Macleans, which is Canada’s News Magazine.

Today, Alfred Sung is still best known for his designs for wedding bridal gowns and his line of perfumes.

The brand Mark Lesley is actually a partnership of husband and wife; Mark and Lesley Monk. Mark worked in the wedding bridal gowns business for twenty one years before finally deciding to set out on his own. His wife, Lesley had great customer services skills, managerial and training experience from leading a team in the civil service. They decided their skills would be a perfect fit and the Mark Lesley brand was born.
Mark Lesley describes their current collection as affordable glamor at its best. The collection is very diverse and has designs for all tastes, budget and sizes. The line is divided into four basic collections which are Mark Lesley Bridal, Bridesmaids, Paradise Bridal, and Prom, with the embroidered, hand beaded design 3021 being especially popular.

As the models walked around the Harvey centre in Harlow where our shop is based, it was a delight to see the shopper’s reactions to them. Little girls were tugging their mum or dads clothes to get their attention whilst pointing to the models and calling them princesses. People walked past smiling and telling the models the dresses they wore were beautiful and made them look stunning.

One of the models changed after a couple of hours into one of our beautiful prom dresses which caught the eyes of many teenage girls who have their prom in mind. Amusing comments were also made from some male shoppers in particular when a lady showed interest by asking where the shop was, her husband said “oh yer who you marrying this time”? Other men could be seen trying to pull their girlfriends in another direction through possible fear of an expected proposal.

Many elderly people sat down watching the models and told them how lovely the dresses looked. Throughout the models time giving out the leaflets the impressions on people’s faces was a pleasant smile, something unique and appealing to the eye was happening on their normal shopping trip.
People could see from these models that it isn’t just wedding and prom dresses that are available in our shop but also stunning accessories to match any of the dresses for any special occasion, from colour matching tiaras and jewellery to beautiful diamante sandals and shoes.

We had many shoppers coming into our wedding shop in Harlow carrying the leaflets with them; we felt this had been a successful promotion as the shoppers who came in were very impressed by the variety, shape, style and colour of the dresses and the vast choice of shoes and accessories.
